Over 100 years ago, on the 23rd day of June 1901, a group of 21 Christians met and a mission of First Baptist Church (Griffin) was organized. This mission church began as a "brush arbor church." On the 2nd day of August, 1901, the name Spalding Mills Baptist Church was given and the Articles of Faith were prepared at the first recorded conference. Application for membership in the Flint River Baptist Association was in September 1901. On November 21, 1901, the Building Committee Presbytery voted on the plans for a building to house the church. The land for the building was donated to the church by the Spalding Mills Company. Building began in the early part of 1902, by in November of the same year the church building was still incomplete. In 1902 records show that the church had 82 members. Church membership grew to 158 members in 1904. In 1904 the church obtained a loan from the State Mission Board (SMB) to finish the church. The SMB received the title and deed to the land and building as security for the loan. The SMB held the title for 56 years. Church membership grew again in 1905 and 1906 to 252. Other denominations began to meet in the area and membership dropped to 141 in 1907. In 1909 Spalding Mill Baptist held a revival and received 70 new members; but then by 1912, the membership had dropped to 75. On October 18, 1916 the name of the church was changed to East Griffin Baptist Church (EGBC). The Sunday school was organized in 1916. The Women's Missionary Union was organized in 1921, the Baptist Young People's Union was organized in 1922; the first Vacation Bible School was in 1924 and a budget system in 1927. A full-time ministry was begun in 1939. Missions and church planting have always played a role in the early life of EGBC. In 1903 members helped organize the Rushton Mills Baptist Church; in 1948 a mission was established in Huckaby Circle (later to be known as Edwards Street Baptist Church); in 1951 a mission was begun in Powell Town; Hatchett Town mission began in 1954 later becoming Plainview Baptist Church. Up until 1940 there was only a Sanctuary with areas being curtained off for Sunday School classes. In 1940 eight Sunday school rooms were added. In 1947 four more Sunday school rooms, two restrooms, and a Pastor's study were added (presently the rear section of the main church building behind the baptistry). In 1949 there was a tornado and the church building suffered damage. The church worshipped in a tent while repairs were being made. During repairs the church was enlarged 20 feet, the baptistry and choir loft were rearranged, a foyer was built and a church steeple was added suitable for housing chimes. In November 1955 the Education Building was started with dedication in November 1957. The stained-glass windows were installed in 2001. This is an abbreviated history was taken from previous versions and records and is not meant to be all-inclusive nor does it highlight all historical events incurred by the church. It does show, however, that East Griffin Baptist Church once was and always will continue to be a mission-minded church. "We Care For You" is appropriately our motto.

Today in Sunday school our attendance was 31 and 12 visitors. Going to be enrolling some of those visitors into Sunday school. So a great total of 43. Thank you Jesus.
Just wanted to give a final report on our Vacation Bible School! Wonderful it was. We had average attendance of 23 children per night but we touched 32 different children with the Gospel this week. We had about 20 workers each night. Total offering received was $153.60 which we will send to Puerto Rico and Jorge’s ministry there. Best news of VBS we had 4 to accept Jesus Christ. Please keep these 4 young men in your prayers. PS: One of the 4 was my grandson! Praise the Lord!
First night of Vacation Bible School at East Griffin Baptist Church! What a night. We had 14 children and 17 workers. 4 of our workers were our youth at Church. I believe they all had a great time at In the Wild. Another chance for VBS tomorrow at 5:00 PM. Come on out and join us.
Night 1 of Revival! 32 on a Sunday night. Now that may not sound like a lot to most of you but at our small church 32 on a Sunday morning is great (which we had this morning) but to have 32 on a Sunday night was wonderful! Thank you Jesus. Brother Steve Foster was excellent! Which side of the boat are you fishing on? Are your nets empty or full? Now if I have to explain it then you must not be a Fisher of Men! Get busy. Tomorrow is busy Thursday at East Griffin Baptist! Food pantry opens at 9:00 AM and closes at 1:00 PM. Ms. Mary Davis and Ms. Jean Crowley manage the pantry. We always have the "free table" if you don't qualify for the food pantry. Ms. Martha Varner and Ms. Rachel manage the free table. Our Soup Kitchen (Community Lunch) starts at 11:00 AM and runs until we are out of food! Ms. Brenda Hutcherson does a wonderful job cooking for us. Compassionate Services on the 3rd floor is where you go to sign in. Mr. Patrick and Ms. Phyllis are there to assist you as well as Ms. Victoria Gibson and sometimes we are fortunate to have Ms. Brenda Green there as well. On the 2nd Thursday of each month the Clothes Closet is open. Ms. Bridget Weeks is in charge of the Clothes Closet. We love you at East Griffin and are always available to lend an ear, give a hug, and pray with you. Be sure to look for Pastor Charles! He's always around.
This Sunday we will have guest speaker, Ms. Karla Purser from the Georgia Baptist Children's Home. Please join us at our morning worship service at 11:00 AM to learn more about the Georgia Baptist Children's Home and how you can be a shining light.
Be sure to visit Compassionate Services on Thursdays of each week here at the Church. Open from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Food Pantry is open from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Community Lunch is served every Thursday at 11:00 AM. Clothes Closet is open every 2nd Thursday from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM. We hope to secure more volunteers so that we can open the Clothes Closet more frequently. Please pray for these ministries!
Saturday, March 31 from 11:00 - 1:00 we will be having our Family Easter Celebration! We will have fun things for the children, food, games, egg hunt and egg coloring. Bring the family and enjoy a great day!
Enjoyed Brother Billy Briscoe on Sunday and his wonderful wife and daughters, The Briscoe Family. Message was great and praises sung by The Briscoe Family were great. We had 44 in attendance for worship on Sunday and 30 in Bible Study. Please join us next Sunday for great worship and Bible study.
